The Greenhorns

The Greenhorns

The Greenhorns documentary film, completed after almost 3 years in production, explores the lives of America's young farming community - its spirit, practices, and needs. It is the filmmaker's hope that by broadcasting the stories and voices of these young farmers, we can build the case for those considering a career in agriculture - to embolden them, to entice them, and to recruit them into farming. The production of The Greenhorns is part of our grassroots nonprofit's larger campaign for agricultural reform. We are an activist organization that does much else besides. Please take a look around our website, watch the trailer, visit our blog, tune in to our radio show, come to an event, and get in touch.

We are the Greenhorns, a nonprofit organization of young farmers, artists and activists. Our mission is to recruit, support and promote young farmers in America. Using radio, blogs, film, new media, original resources and live events, we seek to build agrarian culture by connecting young farmers with land, resources and each other. We are based on a farm in the Hudson Valley of New York.

We firmly believe in the promise a new generation of farmers offers to the health and sustainability of our nation's people and land. Farmers are stewards not only of land but also of communities. The prevailing attrition of America's farming population (the average age of a farmer is 57 and rising) must be reversed if we are to transition into a liveable and edible future.
