From the land of rolling prairie and high plains comes a lively update from Transition OKC in Oklahoma on their recent Training for Transition and Permablitz event. Transition OKC is the 27th official Transition Intiative to kick off in the US. Transition OKC acts as a catalyst for Oklahoma City's transition to local resilience: strong local communities, sustainable local systems (food, energy, etc.), and resilient local economies. Wondering what a permablitz is? Read on!
Transition US leaders in the San Francisco Bay Area were recently interviewed for a film that plans to feature Transition as an alternative to our growth-addicted consumer culture. Filmmaker Dave Gardner interviewed Executive Director Carolyne Stayton and board members Trathen Heckman and Dave Room during a recent West Coast shoot for his documentary, Hooked on Growth: Our Misguided Quest for Prosperity.
Transition US blogger, Joanne Poyourow of Transition Los Angeles recently wrote a reply on behalf of Transition US to Lorna Salzman's open letter to Bill McKibben and 350.org, which was published in the May 3rd issue of the Nation Magazine (read the letter here). In this response, Joanne outlines five strategies for how we can achieve a global CO2 reduction down to 350ppm.

The Transition movement has grown in a large part due to the tools and connectedness made possible through the web. Its important for us to think about our dependence on the web in the work that we do and find ways to make our technology resilient just as we would think of other aspects of our community.
In a "town" this big, it takes a lot of help to get the message out. And this month, Transition Los Angeles (TLA) has received a lot of help from big-name media.
It began in late March when the largest National Public Radio affiliate in Southern California aired a piece that included TLA initiator Joanne Poyourow and the kickoff of their local LETSystem for community-based finances.
