2020 has been a challenging year for everyone. Over the past eight months, our lives and world have been thrown into unprecedented chaos, forcing many of us to question what we’ve been doing, where we might be headed, and even who we want to be in these turbulent times.
While we’ve been asking ourselves these same questions, those of us who have been part of the international Transition Towns Movement have long anticipated these kinds of challenges and have spent more than a decade now preparing ourselves and our communities to be more resilient. This doesn’t mean the past year has been easy on us, but this preparation has enabled us to keep moving forward together through the chaos, creating the better world we know is still possible.
Throughout this year-end fundraising campaign, we will be sharing with you some of the most inspiring stories we’ve observed or been involved in over the past year, in the hopes they will inspire you to help us rise to the challenges of our time.
Even as hopeful as these stories are, however, we know we need to continue to step up our game if we are truly going to rise to meet the challenges of our time. We need more people starting Transition groups and deepening their involvement. We need to weave our movement more closely together, so we can better learn from each other, better support each other, and better amplify our collective voice. And, of course, we need to generate more resources to enable all of this good work to actually happen.
That is why we are currently seeking to raise $80,000 between now and the end of the year – not merely to maintain the status quo, but to rise to greater levels of impact and reach in 2021 and beyond. Fortunately, we have already received $40,000 in matching funds, so every donation you make between now and December 31st will be doubled.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has grown a garden, helped a neighbor, organized a Zoom meeting, marched for justice, or donated to support a worthy cause this past year. Together, WE CAN rise to challenges of our times!
