Workshop: Climate Justice is Social Justice

The Transition movement should be all about both climate and social justice – but is it? Could we do much better? If so, how? This workshop will feature a blend of participant interaction and brief remarks by special guests drawn from across the climate and social justice worlds. The goal is to clarify and deepen our thinking and actions for confronting the climate crisis with social justice. Participants will be introduced to the global climate justice network and some of the beautiful systemic alternatives that are happening right now.

Host:
John Foranteaches sociology and environmental studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he networks in the global climate justice movement and the creation of systemic alternatives beyond capitalism. His work can be found at NXTerra, IICAT, and the Eco Vista Climate Justice Press, and his activism takes place with Eco Vista, Transition US, the Ecoversities Alliance, and the Global Tapestry of Alternatives. He is working on a text – soon to be a minor video production – called the coming cosmic ecosocialist transformation [jk, sort of].
Speakers:
Shrishtee Bajpai is a member of environmental action group-Kalpavriksh. Her activism and research focuses on documenting, researching and networking on radical alternatives to the systemic crises. She helps in coordinating the Vikalp Sangam process (Alternatives Confluence) in India and the Global Tapestry of Alternatives. She has helped found the Rights of Rivers South Asia Alliance and is the executive committee member of the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature. She is a fellow at Post-Growth Institute (2021- 22)
